Question What is a capacitor? A capacitor is a component that can store electrical charge or electrons. When we place a capacitor in a circuit we represent it using two parallel lines (Fig. 3.2).

Question What are the main components of a capacitor? A capacitor consists of two metallic conductive surfaces, called armatures, which are separated by an insulating linear dielectric having a permittivity, ε. It is a measure of the ability of a material to interact with an electric field and become polarized by the field, so that the field within the material is weaker than the field in absence of the material.
