Notable among these are Amazon, Adobe, IBM and Intuit, among several others. All these companies were operating in areas that were not gimmicky—they had established paying customers, and most had a path to profitability. All of these companies also went on to deeply impact how the technology and business world changed over the course of the next two decades and are behemoths in their own right.
